Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न च दिक् ज्ञायते याम्या न आग्नेयी न च वारुणी ।
युग अन्ते नियतो लोको हतो दग्ध इव अग्निना ॥ ॥४-६१-११॥
Na ca dik jñāyate yāmyā na āgneyī na ca vāruṇī । Yuga ante niyato loko hato dagdha iva agninā ॥ ॥4-61-11॥
Translation
Neither the southern direction, nor the south-east, nor the west could be ascertained. The world appeared as if destined for destruction at the end of the age (Yuga), being consumed by fire.
हिंदी अनुवाद
न दक्षिण दिशा (याम्या), न आग्नेय कोण, और न ही पश्चिम दिशा (वारुणी) का ज्ञान हो रहा था। (सूर्य के ताप से) वह लोक (दृश्य) ऐसा लग रहा था मानो युग के अंत (प्रलय) में अग्नि द्वारा जलाकर नष्ट किया जा रहा हो।
English Commentary
Total spatial disorientation sets in. The loss of directional bearings (dik na jnayate) signifies the chaos of the situation. The specific mention of directions like Yamya (South) and Varuni (West) suggests they could no longer navigate relative to the earth. The visual imagery shifts to apocalyptic tones: the world appeared as if it were facing Yuganta (the end of the cosmic era), consumed by fire. This reflects the overwhelming intensity of the solar glare, turning their visual field into a blinding inferno, erasing the familiar cool blues and greens of the earth.

दिशाभ्रम (Disorientation) अत्यधिक ऊँचाई और चमक का परिणाम है। सूर्य के इतने निकट होने पर, प्रकाश इतना तीव्र था कि दिशाओं का भेद समाप्त हो गया। 'युग अन्ते... दग्ध इव अग्निना' एक बहुत ही शक्तिशाली उपमा है। संपाती को नीचे पृथ्वी और चारों ओर का वातावरण 'प्रलयाग्नि' (प्रलय के समय की आग) जैसा दिख रहा था। यह संभवतः सौर लपटों (solar flares) या वायुमंडल में प्रकाश के अपवर्तन का प्रभाव था। यह दृश्य उनके मन में प्रलयंकारी भय उत्पन्न कर रहा था।
