Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
यत्नेन महता भूयो भास्करः प्रतिलोकितः ।
तुल्यः पृथ्वी प्रमाणेन भास्करः प्रतिभाति नौ ॥ ॥४-६१-१३॥
Yatnena mahatā bhūyo bhāskaraḥ pratilokitaḥ । Tulyaḥ pṛthvī pramāṇena bhāskaraḥ pratibhāti nau ॥ ॥4-61-13॥
Translation
With great effort, I looked at the sun again. The sun appeared to us to be equal in size to the earth.

बड़े प्रयत्न से फिर से सूर्य (भास्कर) की ओर देखा। वह भास्कर हमें पृथ्वी के प्रमाण (आकार) के बराबर दिखाई दे रहा था।
English Commentary
This is a terrifyingly magnificent observation. Sampati notes that the Sun (Bhaskara) appeared equal in size to the Earth (Prithvi). From the ground, the sun is a small disc; to see it spanning the visual magnitude of the earth implies they had flown dangerously close, or at least to a point where the solar disc dominated their entire horizon. This visual distortion emphasizes the proximity to the source of heat and the sheer scale of the celestial body they dared to challenge. It serves as the climax of their ascent before the inevitable fall.

यह श्लोक एक अद्भुत खगोलीय अवलोकन (astronomical observation) प्रस्तुत करता है। संपाती कहते हैं कि सूर्य 'पृथ्वी प्रमाणेन' (पृथ्वी के आकार का) दिख रहा था। सामान्यतः पृथ्वी से सूर्य छोटा दिखता है, लेकिन इतनी निकटता से वह विशालकाय दिख रहा था, जैसे कि वह स्वयं एक दूसरी पृथ्वी हो। यह वर्णन भय और विस्मय दोनों उत्पन्न करता है। जब सूर्य दृष्टि क्षेत्र (field of view) को पूरी तरह भर दे, तो समझ लेना चाहिए कि विनाश निश्चित है। यह 'तुल्यः' (समान) शब्द उनके द्वारा तय की गई अविश्वसनीय दूरी का प्रमाण है।
