Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
आशन्के तम् निपतितम् जनस्थाने जटायुषम् ।
अहम् तु पतितो विन्ध्ये दग्ध पक्षो जडी कृतः ॥ ॥४-६१-१६॥
Āśanke tam nipatitam janasthāne jaṭāyuṣam । Aham tu patito vindhye dagdha pakṣo jaḍī kṛtaḥ ॥ ॥4-61-16॥
Translation
I suspect that Jatayu fell in Janasthana. As for me, with my wings burnt and stunned (paralyzed), I fell on the Vindhya mountain.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मुझे आशंका है कि जटायु 'जनस्थान' में गिरा होगा। मैं तो पंख जल जाने के कारण जड़ (चेतना शून्य/असमर्थ) होकर विन्ध्य पर्वत पर गिरा हूँ।
English Commentary
The descent separates the brothers geographically and fatefully. Sampati deduces, likely from the trajectory, that Jatayu landed in Janasthana (a critical location for the future Ramayana narrative). Sampati, however, crashed on the Vindhyas. The term jadi krtah implies a state of being stunned, rendered inert, or immobilized, describing the physical trauma of the crash landing combined with the loss of wings. This verse explains why the brothers never reunited; Sampati was immobilized, and Jatayu likely assumed Sampati perished.

गिरने के बाद दोनों भाई बिछड़ गए। हवा के वेग ने उन्हें अलग-अलग स्थानों पर गिराया। संपाती का अनुमान सही था कि जटायु 'जनस्थान' (पंचवटी के पास) में गिरे, जहाँ बाद में उनकी भेंट राम से हुई। संपाती स्वयं 'विन्ध्य' पर गिरे। 'जडी कृतः' का अर्थ है कि गिरने के आघात और जलने की पीड़ा से उनका शरीर सुन्न या लकवाग्रस्त (stunned/paralyzed) हो गया था। यह वियोग उनके दुख को और बढ़ा देता है—न पंख रहे, न भाई।
