Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अपि आवाम् युगपत् प्राप्तौ अपश्याव मही तले ।
रथ चक्र प्रमाणानि नगराणि पृथक् पृथक् ॥ ॥४-६१-५॥
Api āvām yugapat prāptau apaśyāva mahī tale । Ratha cakra pramāṇāni nagarāṇi pṛthak pṛthak ॥ ॥4-61-5॥
Translation
We reached (a great height) together and saw the separate cities on the earth's surface appearing the size of chariot wheels.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हम दोनों साथ-साथ (आकाश में) पहुँचे और हमने पृथ्वी तल पर अलग-अलग नगरों को रथ के पहियों के आकार जितना (छोटा) देखा।
English Commentary
This verse offers a striking aerial description. As the birds ascend, the perspective of the earth shifts. The comparison of cities to "chariot wheels" (ratha cakra pramanani) is a vivid observation of how altitude diminishes the size of ground objects. It indicates a massive altitude where entire cities are reduced to small circles. This detail adds realism to the narrative, suggesting that the description comes from actual observation of high-altitude phenomena, attributed here to the giant birds.

यह श्लोक और अगले कुछ श्लोक प्राचीन भारतीय साहित्य में 'ऊंचाई से दृश्य' (aerial perspective) का अद्भुत वर्णन करते हैं। जैसे-जैसे वे ऊपर गए, पृथ्वी के विशाल नगर 'रथ चक्र प्रमाणानि' (रथ के पहिये के आकार के) दिखने लगे। यह परिप्रेक्ष्य (scale) का सटीक अवलोकन है। वाल्मीकि जी ने यहाँ उड़ने के अनुभव को वैज्ञानिक यथार्थता के साथ प्रस्तुत किया है। 'युगपत्' बताता है कि आरंभ में दोनों भाई बराबरी पर चल रहे थे।
