Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
क्वचित् वादित्र घोषः च क्वचित् भूषण निःस्वनः ।
गायन्तीः स्म अंगना बह्वीः पश्यावो रक्त वाससः ॥ ॥४-६१-६॥
Kvacit vāditra ghoṣaḥ ca kvacit bhūṣaṇa niḥsvanaḥ । Gāyantīḥ sma aṅganā bahvīḥ paśyāvo rakta vāsasaḥ ॥ ॥4-61-6॥
Translation
Somewhere the sound of musical instruments, somewhere the tinkling of ornaments. We saw many singing women clad in red garments.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कहीं वाद्य यंत्रों की ध्वनि, तो कहीं आभूषणों की झंकार सुनाई दे रही थी। हमने लाल वस्त्र धारण की हुई बहुत सी गायन करती हुई सुंदर स्त्रियों को देखा।
English Commentary
As they climb higher, the sensory inputs change. They hear music and jewelry, and see women in red garments (rakta vasasah) singing. Given the extreme altitude implied in the previous verse, these are likely not humans on the ground, but celestial beings—Gandharvas or Apsaras—who inhabit the intermediate atmospheric regions (Bhuvarloka). The mention of red garments creates a vivid visual contrast against the blue sky. This verse transitions the flight from a terrestrial contest to a journey through celestial planes.

यह वर्णन थोड़ा रहस्यमय है। इतनी ऊँचाई पर पृथ्वी की आवाज़ें नहीं आनी चाहिए। संभवतः यह गन्धर्व लोक या आकाश में विचरण करने वाली दिव्य शक्तियों का वर्णन है, या फिर यह उनकी ऊँचाई के उस स्तर का वर्णन है जहाँ वे बादलों और पर्वत चोटियों के बीच गन्धर्व नगरों को देख रहे थे। 'रक्त वाससः' (लाल वस्त्र वाली) स्त्रियाँ संभवतः अप्सराएँ या आकाशीय देवीय हैं। यह यात्रा लौकिक से अलौकिक की ओर बढ़ रही है। ध्वनि और दृश्य का यह मिश्रण उनके अनुभव को स्वप्नवत बनाता है।
