Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सर्वथा तु न गंतव्यम् ईदृशः क्व गमिष्यसि ।
देश कालौ प्रतीक्षस्व पक्षौ त्वम् प्रतिपत्स्यसे ॥४-६२-१२॥
sarvathā tu na gantavyam īdṛśaḥ kva gamiṣyasi । deśa kālau pratīkṣasva pakṣau tvam pratipatsyase ॥4-62-12॥
Translation
"By no means should you go (anywhere); in this condition, where will you go? Wait for the right time and place. You will regain your wings."

"(ऐसी अवस्था में) तुम्हें बिल्कुल कहीं नहीं जाना चाहिए; ऐसे (पंखहीन) होकर तुम कहाँ जाओगे? तुम देश और काल की प्रतीक्षा करो; तुम्हें पुनः पंख प्राप्त होंगे।"
English Commentary
The sage advises Sampati against despair or wandering aimlessly. Since Sampati was burnt and flightless, the rhetorical question "Where will you go in such a condition?" underscores his dependency. Nishakara commands him to stay put and practice patience (pratīkṣasva). He emphasizes awaiting the right deśa (place/situation) and kāla (time). This implies that healing and redemption are bound by destiny and timing; they cannot be forced prematurely. The assurance pakṣau tvam pratipatsyase (you will recover your wings) acts as the motivating promise. Sampati’s restoration is conditional upon his waiting to perform the service for Rama, linking his physical healing to his spiritual duty.

ऋषि निशाकर ने सम्पाती को आत्महत्या करने या निराश होकर भटकने से रोका था। 'सर्वथा तु न गंतव्यम्'—तुम्हें कहीं जाने की आवश्यकता नहीं है। पंख जल जाने के कारण सम्पाती असहाय थे, इसलिए ऋषि पूछते हैं 'ईदृशः क्व गमिष्यसि' (इस दशा में कहाँ जाओगे?)। ऋषि उन्हें 'प्रतीक्षा' (धैर्य) का मंत्र देते हैं। 'देश कालौ'—सही समय और स्थान की प्रतीक्षा करो। यह जीवन के कठिन दौर में धैर्य रखने का उपदेश है। और अंत में वरदान देते हैं—'पक्षौ त्वम् प्रतिपत्स्यसे' (तुम्हें पंख पुनः प्राप्त होंगे)। यह आशा की किरण थी जिसके सहारे सम्पाती जीवित रहा। शर्त यह थी कि उसे तब तक रुकना था जब तक राम के दूत नहीं आ जाते।
