Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अरण्यम् च सह भ्रात्रा लक्ष्मणेन गमिष्यति ।
तस्मिन् अर्थे नियुक्तः सन् पित्रा सत्य पराक्रमः ॥४-६२-५॥
araṇyam ca saha bhrātrā lakṣmaṇena gamiṣyati । tasmin arthe niyuktaḥ san pitrā satya parākramaḥ ॥4-62-5॥
Translation
That Rama, of true valor, commissioned by his father for that purpose (of exile), will go to the forest accompanied by his brother Lakshmana.

सत्य-पराक्रमी राम अपने पिता (दशरथ) द्वारा उस (वनवास के) प्रयोजन में नियुक्त होकर अपने भाई लक्ष्मण के साथ वन जाएंगे।
English Commentary
This verse outlines the circumstances of Rama's presence in the Dandaka forest. The epithet satya parākramaḥ (one whose valor is truth) signifies that Rama’s strength stems from his adherence to Dharma and truthfulness. He is not merely a victim of palace intrigue; rather, he is described as being niyuktaḥ (appointed/commissioned) by his father. While historically it seemed like a banishment, the sage sees it as an appointment to a specific duty (arthe). The "task" implies the protection of sages and the elimination of evil forces in the forest. The inclusion of Lakshmana highlights the inseparable bond between the brothers, which is crucial information for Sampati to verify the identity of the people the Vanaras are searching for. It frames the exile as a deliberate mission rather than a tragic accident.

यहाँ श्रीराम के वनगमन का कारण और स्वरूप स्पष्ट किया गया है। उन्हें 'सत्य पराक्रमः' कहा गया है, जिसका अर्थ है जिसका पराक्रम सत्य पर आधारित है, या जो सत्य की रक्षा के लिए पराक्रम दिखाता है। वनवास को एक साधारण निष्कासन नहीं, अपितु 'तस्मिन् अर्थे नियुक्तः' (उस प्रयोजन के लिए नियुक्त) कहा गया है। ऋषि की दृष्टि में कैकेयी का वरदान या दशरथ की विवशता केवल निमित्त मात्र थी; वास्तविक कारण एक दैवीय 'अर्थ' (प्रयोजन) था—राक्षसों का विनाश। लक्ष्मण का साथ जाना भी पूर्व-निर्धारित बताया गया है। पिता की आज्ञा का पालन करना राम का धर्म है, और ऋषि सम्पाती को बता रहे हैं कि वह राजकुमार राजमहल त्याग कर अरण्य (वन) में आएगा, जहाँ उसकी भेंट अंततः सम्पाती से (परोक्ष रूप से वानरों के माध्यम से) होगी।
