Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तत् अन्नम् मैथिली प्राप्य विज्ञाय इन्द्रात् इदम् तु इति ।
अग्रम् उद्धृत्य रामाय भू तले निर्वपिष्यति ॥४-६२-९॥
tat annam maithilī prāpya vijñāya indrāt idam tu iti । agram uddhṛtya rāmāya bhū tale nirvapiṣyati ॥4-62-9॥
Translation
Receiving that food and realizing that it is from Indra, Maithili will take out the top portion (the first offering) and offer it on the ground for Rama.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस अन्न को प्राप्त करके और यह जानकर कि यह इंद्र द्वारा दिया गया है, मैथिली (सीता) उसका अग्र भाग (प्रथम अंश) निकालकर पृथ्वी पर राम के लिए अर्पित करेंगी।
English Commentary
This verse vividly portrays Sita’s strict adherence to her Dharma as a devoted wife (Pativrata), even in captivity. Upon receiving the celestial food and recognizing its divine source (Indrat idam), she does not consume it immediately. instead, she performs a ritual offering. She takes the agram (the top-most or best portion) and offers it (nirvapiṣyati) on the bare ground for Rama. This act symbolizes that her sustenance is secondary to her devotion. Even though separated by distance and unaware of Rama's exact location, she mentally shares the meal with him. It signifies that in her mind, she is never separated from Rama, maintaining the spiritual union through ritual sacrifice.

यह श्लोक सीताजी के अनन्य प्रेम और पति-भक्ति का चरम उदाहरण है। घोर संकट और भूख में भी, जब उन्हें देवराज इंद्र से अमृत समान भोजन मिला, तो उन्होंने उसे सीधे ग्रहण नहीं किया। उन्होंने 'विज्ञाय' (पहचान कर/जान कर) कि यह पवित्र है, पहले अपने पति का स्मरण किया। 'अग्रम् उद्धृत्य'—भोजन का पहला ग्रास (अग्र भाग) निकालकर उन्होंने 'भू तले' (ज़मीन पर) राम के उद्देश्य से समर्पित (निर्वपिष्यति) किया। यह भारतीय संस्कृति में 'बलि' (नैवेद्य) की परंपरा है, जहाँ गृहस्थाश्रम में पति या ईश्वर को भोग लगाए बिना भोजन नहीं किया जाता। सीताजी का यह कृत्य दर्शाता है कि वे मानसिक रूप से हर क्षण राम की सेवा में ही हैं।
