Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दक्षिणस्य समुद्रस्य समासाद्य उत्तराम् दिशम् ।
संनिवेशम् ततः चक्रुः सहिता वानर उत्तमाः ॥४-६४-४॥
dakṣiṇasya samudrasya samāsādya uttarām diśam । saṃniveśam tataḥ cakruḥ sahitā vānara uttamāḥ ॥4-64-4॥
Translation
Having reached the northern side (shore) of the southern ocean, the best of monkeys camped there together.

दक्षिण समुद्र की उत्तरी दिशा (तट) पर पहुँचकर, उन वानर-श्रेष्ठों ने एक साथ मिलकर पड़ाव (शिविर) डाला।
English Commentary
This verse details the strategic positioning. They are at the northern shore of the southern ocean. This is the launchpad for the jump to Lanka. They establish a camp (saṃniveśam cakruḥ). The term vānara uttamāḥ (best of monkeys) implies that this group consists of the elite commanders (Angada, Hanuman, Jambavan, etc.). The act of camping indicates a pause for deliberation and planning before attempting the impossible crossing.
