हनुमन् हरि राजस्य सुग्रीवस्य समो हि असि ।
राम लक्ष्मणयोः च अपि तेजसा च बलेन च ॥४-६६-३॥
hanuman hari rājasya sugrīvasya samo hi asi |
rāma lakṣmaṇayoḥ ca api tejasā ca balena ca ॥4-66-3॥
Translation
"Hanuman, in splendor and strength, you are indeed equal to the King of Monkeys, Sugriva, and even to Rama and Lakshmana."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे हनुमान! तुम तेज और बल में वानरराज सुग्रीव के समान हो, और तो और तुम राम और लक्ष्मण के भी समान हो।"
English Commentary
This is the pinnacle of praise. To equate a minister with his King (Sugriva) is significant, but Jambavan elevates Hanuman further by placing him on par with Rama and Lakshmana themselves. The comparison encompasses both 'tejas' (spiritual splendor/radiance) and 'bala' (physical strength). Jambavan is aware that Hanuman is not an ordinary Vanara. By drawing this parallel, he aims to dismantle Hanuman's self-doubt, suggesting that the task of crossing the ocean is well within his reach because he possesses a caliber of power akin to the Divine Princes he serves.

यह स्तुति की पराकाष्ठा है। एक सेवक या मंत्री को उसके राजा (सुग्रीव) के बराबर बताना ही बहुत बड़ी बात है, किन्तु जाम्बवान हनुमान को साक्षात् भगवान राम और लक्ष्मण के समकक्ष रख रहे हैं। 'तेज' (आंतरिक आध्यात्मिक शक्ति या आभा) और 'बल' (शारीरिक शक्ति) दोनों में समानता की गयी है। जाम्बवान जानते हैं कि हनुमान साधारण वानर नहीं हैं। इस तुलना का उद्देश्य हनुमान को यह विश्वास दिलाना है कि जिस कार्य (समुद्र लंघन) को वे असंभव मान रहे हैं, वह उनकी क्षमता के भीतर है, क्योंकि वे स्वयं राम के समान शक्तिधर हैं।
