Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मम ऊरु जन्घा वेगेन भविष्यति समुत्थितः ।
समुत्थित महा ग्राहः समुद्रो वरुण आलयः ॥ ॥४-६७-१३॥
Mama ūru janghā vegena bhaviṣyati samutthitaḥ |
Samutthita mahā grāhaḥ samudro varuṇa ālayaḥ ॥4-67-13॥
Translation
Due to the force/thrust of my thighs and legs, the ocean, the abode of Varuna, will rise up, and its giant crocodiles/marine monsters will be tossed up.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरी जांघों और पिंडलियों के वेग (दबाव) से, वरुण का निवास स्थान यह समुद्र ऊपर उठ जाएगा और इसमें रहने वाले विशाल मगरमच्छ (ग्राह) भी बाहर निकल आएंगे।
English Commentary
This verse describes the physics of his launch. The thrust generated by his thighs (ūru) and calves (janghā) will be so immense that it will disturb the hydrostatic equilibrium of the ocean. The imagery of deep-sea monsters (mahā grāhaḥ) being thrown up signifies that his power penetrates the deepest abysses. It assures the monkeys that no hidden danger in the ocean can stop him, as his very departure will churn the waters into chaos.
हिंदी टीका
उड़ान भरने के लिए जो 'टेक-ऑफ' (take-off) बल चाहिए, उसका वर्णन यहाँ है। हनुमान जी जब छलांग लगाएंगे, तो उनके पैरों का दबाव इतना अधिक होगा कि समुद्र का तल भी हिल जाएगा। 'वरुण आलयः' कहकर वे समुद्र की गंभीरता और पवित्रता को स्वीकारते हैं, फिर भी अपनी शक्ति को उससे ऊपर बताते हैं। पानी के भीतर छिपे भयानक जीव (ग्राह) भी उनके वेग से घबराकर बाहर आ जाएंगे। यह दृश्य उनकी उड़ान की प्रचंडता को दर्शाता है।
