Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
मया च यदिदम् वाक्यम् अभिमानात् समीरितम् ।
तत् त्वया हरिशार्दूल तत् त्वम् इति उपधार्यताम् ॥ ॥४-७-२१॥
Mayā cha yadidam vākyam abhimānāt samīritam |
Tat tvayā harishārdūla tat tvam iti upadhāryatām ॥4-7-21॥
Translation
And this word spoken by me out of pride/self-confidence, O Tiger among monkeys, understand it to be the truth.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वानरश्रेष्ठ (हरिशार्दूल)! मैंने जो यह बात (अपनी शक्ति के बारे में) अभिमान (आत्म-गौरव) से कही है, उसे तुम सत्य ही समझना।
English Commentary
Rama reinforces his pledge. He acknowledges that his previous statement might sound like Abhimana (pride or high opinion of oneself), but he assures Sugriva that it is factual truth (tattvam). Addressing Sugriva as Harishardula (Tiger among monkeys), he treats him as a warrior peer. This verse is essential for building trust; Sugriva has not yet seen Rama's combat prowess. Rama is giving his word of honor that he is capable of delivering on his promises (killing Bali), urging Sugriva to bank on this assurance.

राम पिछले श्लोक में किए गए दावे की पुष्टि करते हैं। 'अभिमान' शब्द यहाँ नकारात्मक अहंकार के लिए नहीं, बल्कि स्वाभिमान और अपनी क्षमता के यथार्थ ज्ञान के लिए प्रयुक्त हुआ है। राम सुग्रीव को 'हरिशार्दूल' (वानरों में बाघ समान) कहकर सम्मान देते हैं। वे सुग्रीव को आश्वस्त कर रहे हैं कि उनकी बातें कोरी डींगें नहीं हैं। रघुकुल की रीत है कि जो कहा जाता है, वह किया जाता है। राम चाहते हैं कि सुग्रीव उनकी शक्ति पर पूर्ण विश्वास रखें, ताकि गठबंधन मजबूत रहे।
