Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तत् तथा इति अब्रवीत् रामः सुग्रीवम् प्रिय दर्शनम् ।
लक्ष्मणस्य अग्रतः लक्ष्म्या वासवस्य इव धीमतः ॥ ॥४-८-१०॥
Tat tathā iti abravīt Rāmaḥ Sugrīvam priya darśanam |
Lakṣmaṇasya agrataḥ lakṣmyā Vāsavasya iva dhīmataḥ ॥4-8-10॥
Translation
Rama, the wise one, resplendent like Indra (Vasava), spoke to the pleasant-looking Sugriva in the presence of Lakshmana, saying, "So be it."
हिंदी अनुवाद
बुद्धिमान राम ने, जो अपने तेज से साक्षात इंद्र (वासव) के समान प्रतीत हो रहे थे, लक्ष्मण के सामने प्रियदर्शन सुग्रीव से कहा—"वैसा ही होगा" (तथास्तु)।
English Commentary
Rama is a man of few words. After Sugriva’s elaborate definition of friendship, Rama simply validates it with Tat tatha ("It is so" or "Agreed"). This brevity indicates his decisive nature. The comparison to Vasava (Indra) is significant; despite being in rags, Rama radiates the aura of the King of Gods. The presence of Lakshmana (Lakshmanasya agratah) adds formality to the scene—Lakshmana acts as the witness and the enforcer of this divine pact. Rama accepts the terms of total sacrifice and loyalty proposed by Sugriva.

राम बहुत कम बोलते हैं, लेकिन उनका हर शब्द पत्थर की लकीर होता है। सुग्रीव ने मित्रता के इतने बड़े-बड़े सिद्धांत रखे, और राम ने केवल दो शब्दों में उत्तर दिया—"तत् तथा" (वह वैसा ही है/होगा)। यह राम की गंभीरता और स्वीकृति को दर्शाता है। यहाँ राम की तुलना 'वासव' (इंद्र) से की गई है, जो राजाओं के राजा हैं, यह दिखाने के लिए कि यद्यपि राम वनवासी के भेष में हैं, उनका तेज और अधिकार (Authority) इंद्र के समान ही प्रभावशाली है। लक्ष्मण की उपस्थिति इस समझौते की गवाह है।
