धन त्यागः सुख त्यागो देश त्यागः अपि वा अनघ ।
वयस्यार्थे प्रवर्तन्ते स्नेहम् दृष्ट्वा तथा विधम् ॥ ॥४-८-९॥
Dhana tyāgaḥ sukha tyāgo deśa tyāgaḥ api vā anagha |
Vayasyārthe pravartante sneham dṛṣṭvā tathā vidham ॥4-8-9॥
Translation
O sinless one! Seeing such deep affection, friends are ready to sacrifice wealth, comfort, and even their own country for the sake of their friend.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे निष्पाप (राम)! जब मित्र का ऐसा प्रगाढ़ स्नेह दिखाई देता है, तो उसके लिए (दूसरे मित्र) धन का त्याग, सुख का त्याग और यहाँ तक कि देश का त्याग करने के लिए भी तत्पर हो जाते हैं।
English Commentary
Sugriva concludes his philosophy on friendship with the concept of "Sacrifice." True friendship isn't just about sharing wealth (as mentioned earlier); it is about the willingness to lose it. The mention of Desha tyaga (abandoning one's country) is poignant because both Rama and Sugriva are currently exiles. Sugriva implies that a true bond inspires people to step out of their comfort zones completely. By addressing Rama as Anagha (sinless), he suggests that such sacrifices are not burdens but righteous duties in a noble alliance.

सुग्रीव यहाँ मित्रता की परिभाषा को पूर्णता प्रदान कर रहे हैं। पिछले श्लोकों में उन्होंने मानसिक और भावनात्मक जुड़ाव की बात की थी, अब वे 'त्याग' (Sacrifice) की बात कर रहे हैं। सच्चा मित्र वही है जो आवश्यकता पड़ने पर अपनी संपत्ति, अपना आराम और यहाँ तक कि अपनी मातृभूमि ('देश त्याग') छोड़ने को भी तैयार हो जाए। सुग्रीव अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से अपनी स्थिति भी बता रहे हैं—वे राम के लिए सबकुछ करने को तैयार हैं, और शायद उन्हें उम्मीद है कि राम भी उनके लिए (बालि से लड़ने का) जोखिम उठाएंगे।
