Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एतावत् उक्त्वा वचनम् बाष्प दूषित लोचनः ।
बाष्प दूषितया वाचा न उच्चैः श्क्नोति भाषितुम् ॥ ॥४-८-२९॥
Etāvat uktvā vacanam bāṣpa dūṣita locanaḥ । Bāṣpa dūṣitayā vācā na uccaiḥ śknoti bhāṣitum ॥ ॥4-8-29॥
Translation
Having said this much, his eyes became filled with tears. Due to his voice being choked with tears, he could not speak aloud.
हिंदी अनुवाद
इतना वचन कहकर, उनके नेत्र आंसुओं से भर गए (दूषित हो गए)। आंसुओं (के वेग) से रुंधे हुए गले के कारण वे उच्च स्वर में बोल नहीं सके।
English Commentary
Valmiki masterfully depicts the physiological response to suppressed grief. Sugriva, a warrior and leader, is rendered mute by the sheer force of his emotions. The repetition of bāṣpa dūṣita (marred/choked by tears) emphasizes that his grief affects both his vision and his speech. This breakdown is necessary; the dam has burst, allowing the pent-up emotion of his exile and humiliation to flow out before his redeemer.

यहाँ वाल्मीकि जी ने सुग्रीव की शारीरिक और मानसिक दशा का मार्मिक चित्रण किया है। दुःख इतना गहरा है कि शब्द गले में अटक गए हैं। 'बाष्प दूषित' (आंसुओं से धुंधला) होना दर्शाता है कि अब सुग्रीव और अधिक संयम नहीं रख पा रहे। एक राजा और सेनापति होते हुए भी, मित्र के सामने वे एक साधारण दुखी जीव की तरह रो पड़ते हैं। यह उनकी पीड़ा की गहराई को दर्शाता है।
