हृता भार्या च मे तेन प्राणेभ्यो अपि गरीयसी ।
सुहृदः च मदीया ये संयता बन्धनेषु ते ॥ ॥४-८-३३॥
Hṛtā bhāryā ca me tena prāṇebhyo api garīyasī । Suhṛdaḥ ca madīyā ye saṃyatā bandhaneṣu te ॥ ॥4-8-33॥
Translation
He has stolen my wife, who is dearer to me than life itself. Furthermore, those who were my friends and well-wishers have been cast into prison by him.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उसने मेरी उस पत्नी (रुमा) का अपहरण कर लिया है जो मुझे प्राणों से भी अधिक प्रिय है। मेरे जो भी सुहृद (मित्र और हितैषी) थे, उन सबको उसने कैद कर लिया है।
English Commentary
Sugriva outlines the personal and political devastation caused by Vali. The abduction of a wife is a direct attack on one's honor and dharma, mirroring Rama's own future plight. By imprisoning Sugriva’s allies, Vali ensured Sugriva had no support system. This explains why Sugriva is fleeing and living in hiding—he has been stripped of both his family and his political power base.

सुग्रीव यहाँ वाली के अत्याचारों की सूची प्रस्तुत करते हैं। पत्नी का अपहरण किसी भी गृहस्थ के लिए सबसे बड़ा अपमान है, विशेषकर जब वह प्राणों से प्यारी हो। मित्रों को कैद करना यह दर्शाता है कि वाली ने सुग्रीव को राजनीतिक और सामाजिक रूप से पूरी तरह अलग-थलग (isolate) कर दिया था। यह श्लोक सुगरीव की असहायता और एकाकीपन को उजागर करता है।
