सोऽहम् सभाज्यो बन्धूनाम् सुहृदाम् चैव राघव ।
यस्य अग्नि साक्षिकम् मित्रम् लब्धम् राघव वंशजम् ॥ ॥४-८-४॥
So'ham sabhājyo bandhūnām suhṛdām caiva Rāghava |
Yasya agni sākṣikam mitram labdham rāghava vaṃśajam ॥4-8-4॥
Translation
O Raghava, having gained a friend like you, a scion of the Raghu dynasty, with fire as the witness, I am now worthy of honor among my relatives and friends.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राघव! अग्नि को साक्षी मानकर रघुकुल के वंशज (आप) जैसा मित्र पाकर, मैं अब अपने भाई-बंधुओं और मित्रों के बीच सम्मान के योग्य हो गया हूँ।
English Commentary
Sugriva touches upon the social capital gained through high-status associations. Being an outcast, his reputation was in tatters. He realizes that an alliance with the prestigious Raghu dynasty restores his dignity and makes him Sabhajyo (worthy of honor) among his peers. The mention of Agni Sakshikam (Fire as witness) reinforces the sanctity of their bond. It isn't a secret deal; it's a consecrated pact that elevates Sugriva's standing in the world. He derives self-worth from this holy association.
हिंदी टीका
सुग्रीव यहाँ सामाजिक प्रतिष्ठा (Social Status) की बात कर रहे हैं। समाज में व्यक्ति का सम्मान इस बात से भी तय होता है कि उसके मित्र कौन हैं। रघुकुल के वंशज से मित्रता होना सुग्रीव के लिए गौरव का विषय है। 'अग्नि साक्षिकम्' का उल्लेख यह याद दिलाता है कि यह मित्रता औपचारिक और पवित्र है। सुग्रीव को लगता है कि राम के जुड़ने से वानर समाज में और उनके परिवार में उनकी साख (Credibility) वापस आ जाएगी, जो बालि के कारण नष्ट हो गई थी।
