अहम् अपि अनुरूपः ते वयस्यो ज्ञास्यसे शनैः ।
न तु वक्तुम् सक्षमः अहम् त्वयि आत्मगतान् गुणान् ॥ ॥४-८-५॥
Aham api anurūpaḥ te vayasyo jñāsyase śanaiḥ |
Na tu vaktum samartho'ham tvayi ātmagatān guṇān ॥4-8-5॥
Translation
You will gradually come to know that I am also a friend worthy of you. However, I am not capable of speaking about my own inherent qualities.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं भी आपके योग्य मित्र हूँ, यह आप धीरे-धीरे स्वयं जान लेंगे। मैं अपने मुख से अपने गुणों का वर्णन करने में समर्थ नहीं हूँ (अर्थात मुझे यह शोभा नहीं देता)।
English Commentary
Sugriva displays deep emotional intelligence here. While acknowledging Rama's greatness, he asserts his own worthiness (Anurupah) without sounding arrogant. He understands that trust is built over time (Shanaih - gradually/slowly) through actions, not self-praise. By refusing to list his own virtues, he adheres to the code of conduct for noble souls. It’s a promise of reciprocal loyalty: 'You are great, and you will find that I am equal to the task of being your friend.'

यह श्लोक सुग्रीव की विनम्रता और आत्म-सम्मान का अद्भुत संतुलन है। वे राम को आश्वस्त करते हैं कि वे भी मित्रता निभाने में पीछे नहीं हटेंगे ('अनुरूपः' - योग्य/समान), लेकिन वे अपनी बड़ाई खुद नहीं करना चाहते। 'शनैः' (धीरे-धीरे) शब्द यथार्थवादी है—विश्वास और चरित्र समय के साथ ही सिद्ध होते हैं। सुग्रीव जानते हैं कि राम ने अपनी शक्ति दिखाई है, अब सुग्रीव की बारी है अपनी निष्ठा सिद्ध करने की, जिसे वे कार्यों द्वारा दिखाएंगे, वाणी द्वारा नहीं।
