Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एष मे राम शोकान्तः शोक आर्तेन निवेदितः ।
दुःखितः सुखितः वा अपि सख्युः नित्यम् सखा गतिः ॥ ॥४-८-४०॥
Eṣa me rāma śokāntaḥ śoka ārtena niveditaḥ । Duḥkhitaḥ sukhitaḥ vā api sakhyuḥ nityam sakhā gatiḥ ॥ ॥4-8-40॥
Translation
O Rama, this is the extent of my sorrow, which I, tormented by grief, have related to you. Whether in sorrow or happiness, a friend is always the refuge of a friend.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राम! शोक से पीड़ित मैंने अपने दुःख का अंत (सारा हाल) आपको बता दिया। चाहे दुःख हो या सुख, मित्र ही सदा मित्र की गति (सहारा) होता है।
English Commentary
Sugriva concludes his plea by invoking the dharma of friendship. He defines a friend (sakhā) as the ultimate refuge (gatiḥ), regardless of circumstances. This is a subtle psychological nudge to Rama, reinforcing the bond they have just forged. Sugriva has done his part by being vulnerable; now he looks to Rama to fulfill the role of the protector-friend.

अपनी बात समाप्त करते हुए सुग्रीव मित्रता के धर्म को परिभाषित करते हैं। वे कहते हैं कि उन्होंने अपना दुखड़ा इसलिए रोया क्योंकि राम उनके मित्र हैं। वे राम को याद दिलाते हैं कि मित्र का कर्तव्य है कि वह हर स्थिति में साथ दे। यह एक प्रकार से राम से सहायता की अंतिम याचना है।
