स तृणैः आवृतम् दुर्गम् धरण्या विवरम् महत् ।
प्रविवेश असुरः वेगात् आवाम् आसाद्य विष्ठितौ ॥ ॥४-९-११॥
Sa tṛṇaiḥ āvṛtam durgam dharaṇyā vivaram mahat |
Praviveśa asuraḥ vegāt āvām āsādya viṣṭhitau ॥4-9-11॥
Translation
Seeing us approaching, that demon quickly entered a large, difficult-to-access cave in the ground that was covered with grass. We both stood there stopping at the entrance.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस असुर ने, हम दोनों को पास आया देख, वेगपूर्वक घास से ढके हुए एक दुर्गम और विशाल पृथ्वी के बिल (गुफा) में प्रवेश किया। तब हम दोनों वहां खड़े हो गए।
English Commentary
Sugriva describes the specific setting where the pivotal misunderstanding began. The demon Mayavi, fleeing in fear, hid in a camouflaged ('covered with grass') and inaccessible cave. The fact that the brothers stopped at the entrance is crucial; up to this point, they were a united team pursuing a common enemy. The description of the cave as Durgam (difficult to traverse) foreshadows the danger and the separation that is about to occur.

यहाँ सुग्रीव उस घटना का वर्णन कर रहे हैं जहाँ से भ्रम की स्थिति उत्पन्न हुई। मायावी असुर का घास से ढकी गुफा में छिपना यह दर्शाता है कि वह युद्ध से डरकर भागा था। यह स्थान 'दुर्गम' बताया गया है, जिसका अर्थ है जहाँ जाना कठिन हो। सुग्रीव और वाली का गुफा के बाहर रुकना एक निर्णायक क्षण था, क्योंकि यही वह बिंदु है जहाँ दोनों भाइयों का भाग्य अलग-अलग दिशाओं में मुड़ने वाला था।
