Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इह तिष्ठ अद्य सुग्रीव बिल द्वारि समाहितः ।
यावत् अत्र प्रविश्य अहम् निहन्मि समरे रिपुम् ॥ ॥४-९-१३॥
Iha tiṣṭha adya sugrīva bila dvāri samāhitaḥ |
Yāvat atra praviśya aham nihanmi samare ripum ॥4-9-13॥
Translation
"O Sugriva! Stand here at the cave entrance today, alert and attentive, until I enter inside and kill the enemy in battle."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे सुग्रीव! तुम आज यहीं गुफा के द्वार पर सावधान होकर खड़े रहो, जब तक कि मैं भीतर जाकर युद्ध में उस शत्रु का वध न कर दूँ।"
English Commentary
This verse is vital evidence in Sugriva's defense against the accusation of betrayal. Vali explicitly ordered (Iha tishtha) Sugriva to wait at the entrance. The word Samahitah implies waiting with full attention and focus. Sugriva did not stay behind out of fear, but out of obedience to his brother's command. He was instructed to guard the exit while Vali finished the job inside.

यह श्लोक सुग्रीव की निर्दोषता साबित करने के लिए अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। वाली ने स्वयं सुग्रीव को आदेश दिया था कि वह गुफा के द्वार पर रुके। 'समाहितः' शब्द का प्रयोग बताता है कि वाली चाहता था कि सुग्रीव पूरी एकाग्रता और सतर्कता से पहरा दे। सुग्रीव वहां अपनी कायरता के कारण नहीं, बल्कि अपने बड़े भाई और राजा की आज्ञा का पालन करने के लिए रुका था।
