अथ दीर्घस्य कालस्य बिलात् तस्मात् विनिःसृतम् ।
सः फेनम् रुधिरम् दृष्ट्वा ततो अहम् भृशदुःखितः ॥ ॥४-९-१७॥
Atha dīrghasya kālasya bilāt tasmāt viniḥsṛtam |
Saḥ phenam rudhiram dṛṣṭvā tato aham bhṛśaduḥkhitaḥ ॥4-9-17॥
Translation
Then, after that long period, seeing foamy blood flowing out from the cave, I became completely overcome with sorrow.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर, उस दीर्घ काल के पश्चात, उस बिल से झाग मिला हुआ रक्त बाहर निकलता देख, मैं अत्यंत दुखी हुआ।
English Commentary
This is the turning point where suspicion turned into conviction. The visual evidence of 'foamy blood' (Sa phenam rudhiram) flowing from the cave was interpreted by Sugriva as a sign of his brother's demise. His reaction—being extremely sorrowful (Bhrishadukhita)—confirms he was mourning a brother, not celebrating a path to the throne. It justifies why he took the next drastic step.

यह वह दृश्य प्रमाण था जिसने सुग्रीव को विश्वास दिला दिया कि वाली मारा गया है। 'फेनम् रुधिरम्' (झागदार खून) का निकलना भीषण हिंसा का संकेत था। सुग्रीव का 'भृशदुःखितः' (अत्यंत दुखी) होना यह सिद्ध करता है कि उसे वाली की मृत्यु पर कोई खुशी नहीं हुई, बल्कि उसे गहरा आघात लगा। यह श्लोक सुग्रीव की उस समय की मानसिक स्थिति का चित्रण करता है।
