Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ततः अहम् तैः समागम्य समेतैः अभिषेचितः ।
राज्यम् प्रशासतः तस्य न्यायतो मम राघव ॥ ॥४-९-२१॥
Tataḥ aham taiḥ samāgamya sametaiḥ abhiṣecitaḥ |
Rājyam praśāsataḥ tasya nyāyato mama rāghava ॥4-9-21॥
Translation
Then, they (the ministers) gathered together and consecrated me as king. O Raghava, I began to rule that kingdom justly.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब उन सब (मंत्रियों) ने मिलकर मेरा राज्याभिषेक कर दिया। हे राघव! तब से मैं न्यायपूर्वक उस राज्य का शासन करने लगा।
English Commentary
Sugriva clarifies the succession. He did not seize the crown; he was installed (Abhishechitah) by the consensus of the gathered ministers because the throne could not remain empty. He asserts that he ruled Nyayatah (justly/according to dharma). This defense is crucial to contrast against Vali's later accusation that Sugriva stole the kingdom. He accepted the role out of duty to the state.

सुग्रीव स्पष्ट करते हैं कि उन्होंने सिंहासन छीना नहीं, बल्कि उन्हें 'अभिषेचित' किया गया। मंत्रियों ने देखा कि राजा (वाली) मृत है और राज्य असुरक्षित है, इसलिए उन्होंने सुग्रीव को राजा बनाया। 'न्यायतः' (न्यायपूर्वक) शब्द का प्रयोग यह बताता है कि सुग्रीव एक अच्छे शासक थे और उन्होंने सत्ता का दुरुपयोग नहीं किया। उन्होंने धर्म और नीति के अनुसार ही कार्य किया।
