राज्यम् प्रशासतः तस्य पितृ पैतामहम् महत् ।
अहम् सर्वेषु कालेषु प्रणतः प्रेष्यवत् स्थितः ॥ ॥४-९-३॥
Rājyam praśāsataḥ tasya pitṛ paitāmaham mahat । Aham sarveṣu kāleṣu praṇataḥ preṣyavat sthitaḥ ॥ ॥4-9-3॥
Translation
While he was ruling that great ancestral kingdom, I remained subordinate to him at all times, standing by like a servant.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जब वे उस महान पैतृक राज्य का शासन कर रहे थे, तब मैं हर समय एक सेवक की भांति विनम्र होकर उनकी सेवा में उपस्थित रहता था।
English Commentary
Sugriva emphasizes his total submission to Vali’s authority. Despite being a royal prince, he adopted the posture of a servant (preṣyavat), devoid of ego. This reinforces the tragedy of his current situation—he is being punished by the very person he served with absolute humility. He is building a case that he gave Vali no cause for suspicion or anger.

सुग्रीव अपनी वफादारी का प्रमाण देते हैं। यद्यपि वे राजकुमार थे, किन्तु उन्होंने राजा (वाली) के प्रति 'प्रेष्यवत्' (नौकर/दास की तरह) व्यवहार किया। 'प्रणतः' (झुका हुआ) शब्द उनकी विनम्रता को दर्शाता है। सुग्रीव राम को यह समझाना चाहते हैं कि विद्रोह उनके स्वभाव में नहीं था, वे तो एक आज्ञाकारी अनुज थे।
