Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रसुप्तः तु मम भ्राता नर्दितो भैरव स्वनम् ।
श्रुत्वा न ममृषे वाली निष्पपात जवात् तदा ॥ ॥४-९-६॥
Prasuptaḥ tu mama bhrātā nardito bhairava svanam । Śrutvā na mamṛṣe vālī niṣpapāta javāt tadā ॥ ॥4-9-6॥
Translation
Though my brother was fast asleep, hearing that terrible roaring sound, he could not tolerate it and rushed out immediately with speed.

मेरा भाई गहरी नींद में था, किन्तु उस भयानक गर्जना को सुनकर वह उसे सहन नहीं कर सका और तत्काल वेग से बाहर निकल पड़ा।
English Commentary
Vali’s reaction is visceral and immediate. Despite being asleep, his warrior instinct overrides caution. He is described as intolerant (na mamṛṣe) of the insult. His rushing out without assessing the situation highlights his flaw: excessive pride and impulsiveness. Sugriva describes this to show that events unfolded too quickly for anyone to control.

वाली के चरित्र का यह पहलू महत्वपूर्ण है—अत्यंत क्रोध और आवेश। नींद में होने के बावजूद, वह चुनौती सुनकर रुक नहीं सका। 'न ममृषे' (सहन नहीं किया) और 'निष्पपात' (टूट पड़ा/निकल पड़ा) शब्द उसकी उग्रता को दिखाते हैं। उसने न तैयारी की, न विचार किया, बस शत्रु को मारने दौड़ा। यही अविवेक आगे चलकर विनाश का कारण बना।
