Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
यथा जलधरं भित्त्वा दीप्तरश्मिर्दिवाकरः ।
स महात्मा मुहूर्तेन सर्वतः सलिलावृतः ॥ ॥५-१-१०३॥
yathā jaladharaṃ bhittvā dīptaraśmirdivākaraḥ । sa mahātmā muhūrtena sarvataḥ salilāvṛtaḥ ॥ ॥5-1-103॥
Translation
Just as the sun with blazing rays breaks through a cloud, that great-souled one (Mainaka), surrounded by water, appeared in a moment.

जैसे चमकीली किरणों वाला सूर्य बादलों को चीरकर निकलता है, वैसे ही वह महात्मा (विशाल शरीर वाला मैनाक) पल भर में चारों ओर के जल से घिरकर (जल से बाहर आकर) प्रकट हुआ।
English Commentary
The simile compares the golden mountain breaking the blue ocean surface to the blazing sun (dīptaraśmir divākaraḥ) breaking through dark clouds. This emphasizes both the brightness of Mainaka (being gold) and the suddenness of the revelation. The phrase sarvataḥ salilāvṛtaḥ usually means "surrounded by water," indicating he is an island peak now standing amidst the vast ocean, shining brilliantly against the aquatic backdrop.

वाल्मीकि यहाँ एक उत्कृष्ट उपमा देते हैं। जैसे काला बादल (जलधर) हटता है और सूर्य (दिवाकर) चमकता हुआ निकलता है, वैसे ही नीला समुद्र हटा और सुनहरा मैनाक बाहर आया। मैनाक का शरीर सोने का है, इसलिए सूर्य से तुलना सटीक है। 'महात्मा' यहाँ विशाल शरीर (महान आत्मा/स्वरूप) के संदर्भ में प्रयुक्त है। 'मुहूर्तेन' बताता है कि यह क्रिया अत्यंत तीव्र थी—पलक झपकते ही पर्वत सामने था।
