वेगवन्तः प्लवन्तो ये प्लवगा मारुतात्मज ।
तेषां मुख्यतमं मन्ये त्वामहं कपिकुञ्जर ॥ ॥५-१-११९॥
Vegavantaḥ plavanto ye plavagā mārutātmaja । Teṣāṃ mukhyatamaṃ manye tvāmahaṃ kapikuñjara ◆ ॥5-1-119॥
Translation
O son of the Wind! Among those monkeys who leap with speed, I consider you the foremost, O elephant among monkeys.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे वायुपुत्र! वेगपूर्वक उछलने वाले जो भी वानर हैं, हे कपिकुञ्जर! मैं आपको उन सबमें मुख्यतम (श्रेष्ठ) मानता हूँ।
English Commentary
Maināka praises Hanumān as the mukhyatama (the very best) among all leaping beings. The epithet Mārutātmaja (Son of Wind) is strategically used here to link Hanumān’s speed (vega) to his divine parentage, setting the stage for the upcoming revelation of Maināka's debt to Vāyu. The term Kapikuñjara literally means "Elephant among monkeys," an idiom signifying one who is pre-eminent, powerful, and noble within his class. This praise is meant to validate Hanumān's capability and justify why he specifically is worthy of such exceptional honor.
