त्वं हि देववरिष्ठस्य मारुतस्य महात्मनः ।
पुत्रस्तस्यैव वेगेन सदृशः कपिकुञ्जर ॥ ॥५-१-१२१॥
Tvaṃ hi devavariṣṭhasya mārutasya mahātmanaḥ । Putrastasyaiva vegena sadṛśaḥ kapikuñjara ॥ ॥5-1-121॥
Translation
O Elephant among monkeys! You are indeed the son of the exalted Wind God (Vāyu), the best among celestials, and you are equal to him in speed.

हे कपिश्रेष्ठ! आप देवताओं में श्रेष्ठ, महात्मा वायुदेव के पुत्र हैं और वेग में उन्हीं के समान हैं।
English Commentary
Maināka establishes the divine lineage of Hanumān to justify his reverence. By addressing Vāyu as Devavariṣṭha (Best among the Devas) and Mahātman (Great Soul), he elevates the status of Hanumān’s origin. The comparison vegena sadṛśaḥ (equal in speed) is significant; in Indian epics, a son is often considered a reincarnated extension of the father (ātmā vai jāyate putraḥ). Therefore, Hanumān carries the full essence and potency of the Wind God. This assertion lays the groundwork for the upcoming explanation of why Maināka feels a personal debt to this specific deity.

मैनाक यहाँ हनुमान जी की वंशावली और उनकी शक्ति के स्रोत का स्मरण करा रहे हैं। 'देववरिष्ठस्य' (देवताओं में श्रेष्ठ) विशेषण वायुदेव की महत्ता को स्थापित करता है। वैदिक और पौराणिक परंपरा में वायु को प्राणशक्ति माना गया है, जिसके बिना जीवन असंभव है। मैनाक कहते हैं कि हनुमान केवल पुत्र ही नहीं, बल्कि 'वेगेन सदृशः' (वेग में पिता के समान) हैं। पुत्र का पिता के समान गुणी होना पिता के लिए गौरव की बात होती है। मैनाक यह भूमिका इसलिए बाँध रहे हैं ताकि वे यह सिद्ध कर सकें कि हनुमान जी की सेवा करना साक्षात् वायुदेव की सेवा करने के तुल्य है।
