Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पूजिते त्वयि धर्मज्ञ पूजां प्राप्नोति मारुतः ।
तस्मात्त्वं पूजनीयो मे शृणु चाप्यत्र कारणम् ॥ ॥५-१-१२२॥
Pūjite tvayi dharmajña pūjāṃ prāpnoti mārutaḥ । Tasmāttvaṃ pūjanīyo me śṛṇu cāpyatra kāraṇam ॥ ॥5-1-122॥
Translation
O knower of Dharma! When you are worshipped, the Wind God receives that worship. Therefore, you are worthy of my worship. Hear the reason for this.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे धर्मज्ञ! आपके पूजित होने पर वायुदेव ही पूजा प्राप्त करते हैं। इसलिए आप मेरे लिए पूजनीय हैं। इसमें जो कारण है, उसे भी सुनिये।
English Commentary
This verse articulates a profound cultural tenet: honoring the son is the most direct way to honor the father. Maināka argues that his worship of Hanumān is transitive—it flows directly to Vāyu. Addressing Hanumān as Dharmajña (Knower of Dharma) appeals to his intellect and ethical understanding, making it difficult for him to refuse without violating a norm of gratitude. Maināka then transitions from general principles to specific history, preparing to narrate the kāraṇam (reason) for his deep indebtedness to the Wind God.

यह श्लोक भारतीय संस्कृति के उस सिद्धांत को प्रतिपादित करता है जिसमें प्रतिनिधि या संतति का सम्मान मूल व्यक्ति का ही सम्मान माना जाता है। 'पूजिते त्वयि' (आपके पूजित होने पर) वायुदेव स्वतः तृप्त होते हैं। मैनाक हनुमान जी को 'धर्मज्ञ' कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, यह संकेत देने के लिए कि हनुमान जी इस सूक्ष्म धर्म को समझते हैं और इसलिए उन्हें आतिथ्य स्वीकार करना चाहिए। अब मैनाक उस ऐतिहासिक घटना ('कारणम्') को सुनाने जा रहे हैं जिससे उनका और वायुदेव का संबंध बना। यह कथावाचन शैली है जहाँ पहले सिद्धांत बताया जाता है, फिर दृष्टांत।
