ततस्तेषु प्रयातेषु देवसंघः सहर्षिभिः ।
भूतानि च भयं जग्मुस्तेषां पतनशङ्कया ॥ ॥५-१-१२४॥
Tatasteṣu prayāteṣu devasaṃghaḥ saharṣibhiḥ । Bhūtāni ca bhayaṃ jagmusteṣāṃ patanaśaṅkayā ॥ ॥5-1-124॥
Translation
Then, as they flew about, the assembly of gods, along with sages and all living beings, were struck with fear, dreading their falling.

उनके (पर्वतों के) उड़ने पर ऋषियों सहित देवताओं का समूह और समस्त प्राणी उनके गिरने की आशंका से भयभीत हो जाते थे।
English Commentary
The imagery evokes cosmic chaos. The flight of gigantic mountains created existential dread (bhaya) among all beings, from gods to mortals. The specific fear was patana-śaṅkā—the anxiety of not knowing where these flying colossuses would land. This creates a justification for Indra's subsequent harsh action. In Indian mythology, order (Dharma) often requires the curbing of unrestrained power. The mountains, though magnificent, became a menace due to their unpredictability.

विशालकाय पर्वतों के आकाश में उड़ने से उत्पन्न आतंक का चित्रण यहाँ किया गया है। समस्या उड़ना नहीं, बल्कि अनिश्चित स्थान पर गिरना ('पतनशङ्कया') थी। यदि पहाड़ बस्तियों या नगरों पर गिर जाएं तो प्रलय हो सकती थी। इसी भय से देव, ऋषि और सामान्य प्राणी त्रस्त थे। यह श्लोक अराजकता और भय के वातावरण को दर्शाता है, जो किसी 'त्राता' (रक्षक) के हस्तक्षेप की पृष्ठभूमि तैयार करता है। यह समाज में शक्तिशाली और अनियंत्रित तत्वों द्वारा उत्पन्न भय का प्रतीक भी है।
