Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स मामुपागतः क्रुद्धो वज्रमुद्यम्य देवराट् ।
ततोऽहं सहसा क्षिप्तः स्वसनेन महात्मना ॥ ॥५-१-१२६॥
Sa māmupāgataḥ kruddho vajramudyamya devarāṭ । Tato'haṃ sahasā kṣiptaḥ svasanena mahātmanā ॥ ॥5-1-126॥
Translation
That King of Gods (Indra), angry and raising his thunderbolt, approached me as well. Then, I was suddenly thrown away by the high-souled Wind God.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह देवराज (इन्द्र) क्रुद्ध होकर, वज्र उठाकर मेरे पास भी आ धमके। तब महात्मा पवनदेव (श्वसन) ने सहसा मुझे दूर फेंक दिया।
English Commentary
The narrative shifts to Maināka's close encounter with death. Indra approaches him with the raised Vajra, intent on severing his wings. At this critical juncture, Vāyu intervenes. The verb kṣiptaḥ (thrown/blown away) suggests a forceful, protective gust of wind that removed Maināka from the immediate range of Indra's weapon. Vāyu acts as the savior here, protecting the vulnerable mountain from the wrath of the King of Gods. This establishes the life debt Maināka owes to Hanumān's father.

अब मैनाक अपनी व्यक्तिगत आपबीती सुनाते हैं। जब इन्द्र उन्हें मारने के लिए वज्र लेकर दौड़े, तब वे असहाय थे। 'सहसा क्षिप्तः'—अचानक धकेल दिया गया। यह पवनदेव (वायु) का हस्तक्षेप था। वायु ने इन्द्र के प्रहार से पहले ही मैनाक को तीव्र गति से उड़ाकर दूर कर दिया। 'श्वसन' वायु का एक नाम है (जो श्वास रूप में प्राण देते हैं)। यहाँ वायु ने मैनाक के 'प्राण' बचाए। यह घटना मैनाक के मन में वायु के प्रति कृतज्ञता का आधार है।
