Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवमुक्तः कपिश्रेष्ठस्तं नगोत्तममब्रवीत् ।
प्रीतोऽस्मि कृतमातिथ्यं मन्युरेषोऽपनीयताम् ॥ ॥५-१-१३१॥
Evamuktaḥ kapiśreṣṭhastaṃ nagottamamabravīt । Prīto'smi kṛtamātithyaṃ manyureṣo'panīyatām ॥ ॥5-1-131॥
Translation
Thus addressed, the best of monkeys spoke to the best of mountains: 'I am pleased. The hospitality has been (accepted in spirit). Let this distress/anger be removed.'
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऐसा कहे जाने पर कपिश्रेष्ठ (हनुमान) ने उस नगोत्तम (मैनाक) से कहा—'मैं (आपकी बातों से) बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ। मैंने आपका आतिथ्य (भाव रूप में) स्वीकार कर लिया है। आप अपने मन से रोष (या खेद) को निकाल दें।'
English Commentary
Hanumān responds with grace and firmness. He acknowledges the sentiment, saying prīto'smi (I am pleased). The phrase kṛtam ātithyam implies "Consider the hospitality as done/accepted." He accepts the spirit of the offer without accepting the physical rest. His request manyuḥ eṣaḥ apanīyatām is crucial. While manyu often means anger, here it signifies the distress or disappointment Maināka might feel at a refusal. Hanumān asks him not to be offended or sad, validating Maināka's gesture while preparing to decline the stop.

हनुमान जी का उत्तर अत्यंत संतुलित और कूटनीतिक है। वे 'प्रीतोऽस्मि' (मैं प्रसन्न हूँ) कहकर मैनाक के प्रेम का मान रखते हैं। वे कहते हैं 'कृतमातिथ्यं'—आतिथ्य हो गया (मान लिया गया)। हनुमान जी जानते हैं कि वे रुक नहीं सकते, इसलिए वे मैनाक से कहते हैं 'मन्युरेषोऽपनीयताम्'। यहाँ 'मन्यु' का अर्थ क्रोध नहीं, बल्कि 'विषाद' या 'बुरा मानना' है। हनुमान जी कह रहे हैं कि मेरे न रुकने पर आप बुरा न मानें, मैंने आपकी भावना स्वीकार कर ली है।
