अब्रवीत्कुरु वै वक्त्रं येन मां विषहिष्यसे ।
प्रविश्य वदनं मेऽद्य ग्न्तव्यं वानरोत्तम ।
वर एष पुरा दत्तो ममम् ध्रात्रेति सत्वरा ॥५-१-१६१॥
abravītkuru vai vaktraṃ yena māṃ viṣahiṣyase |
praviśya vadanaṃ me'dya gantavyaṃ vānarottama |
vara eṣa purā datto mama dhātreti satvarā ॥5-1-161॥
Translation
Hanuman said, "Make a mouth big enough to contain me." (Surasa repeated,) "Enter my mouth and go, O best of Vanaras; such is the boon given to me by the Creator."
हिंदी अनुवाद
हनुमान जी ने कहा— "अपना मुख (इतना बड़ा) करो जिससे तुम मुझे समा सको।" (सुरसा ने फिर दोहराया)— "हे वानरोत्तम! मेरे मुख में प्रवेश करके ही जाओ, ऐसा मुझे विधाता का वर है।"
English Commentary
Hanuman accepts the challenge but throws it back at her: "Make your mouth big enough to handle me." He essentially dares her to contain his expanding form. This is a strategic move to exhaust the opponent or find a loophole in their power. The repetition of Surasa’s command in the verse highlights the stalemate—she is bound by the boon to insist on swallowing him, and he is bound by duty to resist. Hanuman initiates a game of endless expansion, testing the limits of the "container" (Surasa) against the "contained" (himself).

हनुमान जी चुनौती स्वीकार करते हैं। "कुरु वै वक्त्रं" (अपना मुख बड़ा करो)—यह कहकर वे सुरसा को उकसाते हैं। यह उनकी रणनीति का हिस्सा है। वे देखना चाहते हैं कि सुरसा की सीमा क्या है। वे सीधे उसके मुख में नहीं जाते, बल्कि उसे अपना आकार बढ़ाने के लिए विवश करते हैं। श्लोक का दूसरा भाग सुरसा की उसी हठधर्मिता को दोहराता है (जैसा कि पिछले श्लोकों में था), जो यह दिखाता है कि दोनों अपनी-अपनी बात पर अडिग हैं। हनुमान जी जानते हैं कि शत्रु को हराने के लिए उसे उसकी ही शक्ति के जाल में उलझाना एक श्रेष्ठ नीति है।
