चकार सुरसा चास्यं विंशद्योजनमायतम् ।
हनुमांस्तु ततः क्रुद्धस्त्रिंशद्योजनमायतः ॥५-१-१६३॥
cakāra surasā cāsyaṃ viṃśadyojanamāyatam |
hanumāṃstu tataḥ kruddhastriṃśadyojanamāyataḥ ॥5-1-163॥
Translation
Surasa then made her mouth twenty yojanas wide. thereupon, the angry Hanuman expanded to thirty yojanas.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब सुरसा ने अपना मुख बीस योजन फैला लिया। यह देखकर क्रोधित हनुमान तीस योजन लंबे हो गए।
English Commentary
The stakes double. Surasa expands her mouth to 20 yojanas to accommodate the 10-yojana Hanuman. Usually, a container must be larger than the content. Hanuman counters by growing to 30 yojanas. The arithmetic progression (10, 20, 30) creates a rhythmic tension in the narrative. It symbolizes the escalating nature of worldly problems; as soon as you overcome one level, the challenge grows. Hanuman’s "anger" here fuels his expansion, representing the dynamic energy required to outgrow restrictions imposed by external forces.

सुरसा भी कम नहीं थीं, उन्होंने तुरंत अपना मुख 'विंशद्योजनम्' (20 योजन) कर लिया ताकि 10 योजन के हनुमान उसमें समा सकें। प्रत्युत्तर में हनुमान जी ने अपना आकार 'त्रिंशद्योजनम्' (30 योजन) कर लिया। यहाँ 'क्रुद्धः' शब्द फिर आया है, जो प्रतियोगिता की तीव्रता को दर्शाता है। यह संघर्ष अहंकार और क्षमता का है। सुरसा हनुमान को निगलने के लिए अपना दायरा बढ़ा रही हैं, और हनुमान उस दायरे से बाहर रहने के लिए अपना विस्तार कर रहे हैं। यह दर्शाता है कि साधक को बाधाओं से हमेशा एक कदम आगे (बड़ा) होना चाहिए।
