अद्य दीर्घस्य कालस्य भविष्याम्यहमशिता ।
इदं हि मे महत्सत्त्वं चिरस्य वशमागतम् ॥ ॥५-१-१८३॥
Adya dīrghasya kālasya bhaviṣyāmyahamaśitā |
Idaṃ hi me mahatsattvaṃ cirasya vaśamāgatam ॥5-1-183॥
Translation
(She thought) "Today, after a long time, I shall eat to my heart's content. Indeed, after a long interval, this huge creature has come within my power."
हिंदी अनुवाद
(उसने सोचा) आज बहुत लम्बे समय के बाद मैं तृप्त होकर भोजन करूँगी। निश्चय ही दीर्घकाल के पश्चात यह विशाल प्राणी मेरे वश में आया है।
English Commentary
Simhika's internal monologue reveals her predatory instinct. She views the majestic Hanuman merely as mahatsattvam (a great being/creature) suitable for consumption. The phrase vaśamāgatam (come under my control) highlights her overconfidence. She assumes that because Hanuman is flying over her territory, he is automatically her prey. This reflects the archetype of arrogance often found in villains in epics, who underestimate the protagonist's spiritual and physical prowess, seeing them only as material to be consumed.

सिंहिका की यह उक्ति उसकी क्षुधा और क्रूरता को व्यक्त करती है। 'महत्सत्त्वं' का अर्थ यहाँ विशाल प्राणी से है। उसे हनुमान जी के बल या उद्देश्य का कोई भान नहीं है; वह उन्हें केवल एक 'ग्रास' या भोजन के रूप में देख रही है। यह श्लोक तामसिक वृत्ति का परिचायक है, जो सामने आने वाली प्रत्येक महान वस्तु का उपभोग कर उसे नष्ट करना चाहती है। उसे यह भ्रम हो गया है कि हनुमान उसके वश में आ चुके हैं, जो उसके विनाश का कारण बनेगा।
