तिर्यगूर्ध्वमधश्चैव वीक्षिमाणस्ततः कपिः ।
ददर्श स महत्सत्त्वमुत्थितं लवणाम्भसि ॥ ॥५-१-१८६॥
Tiryagūrdhvamadhaścaiva vīkṣimāṇastataḥ kapiḥ |
Dadarśa sa mahatsattvamutthitaṃ lavaṇāmbhasi ॥5-1-186॥
Translation
Then, looking sideways, upwards, and downwards, the Monkey saw a huge creature rising up from the salt waters.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब उस वानर ने तिरछा, ऊपर और नीचे देखते हुए, खारे जल (समुद्र) में उभरे हुए एक विशाल प्राणी को देखा।
English Commentary
This verse highlights Hanuman's situational awareness. Instead of panic, he engages in active observation—scanning all dimensions (sideways, up, and down). He locates the source of the drag in the lavaṇāmbhasi (salt waters). The visual of the creature rising (utthitam) signifies the manifestation of the obstacle. It teaches that when progress is inexplicably halted, one must look for the root cause in the environment before reacting.

बाधा उपस्थित होने पर हनुमान जी घबराए नहीं, अपितु उन्होंने कारण की खोज आरम्भ की। 'तिर्यगूर्ध्वमधश्चैव'—यह उनके अवलोकन की सूक्ष्मता को दर्शाता है। समस्या का निदान (diagnosis) करने के लिए उन्होंने चारों दिशाओं में दृष्टि दौड़ी। अंततः उन्होंने समुद्र के जल से ऊपर उठती हुई उस विकराल राक्षसी को देखा। यह एक वीर और बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति का लक्षण है कि संकट के समय वह धैर्यपूर्वक उसके स्रोत का पता लगाता है।
