तद्दृष्ट्वा चिन्तयामास मारुतिर्विकृताननम् ।
कपिराजेन कथितं सत्त्वमद्भुतदर्शनम् ॥ ॥५-१-१८७॥
Taddṛṣṭvā cintayāmāsa mārutirvikṛtānanam |
Kapirājena kathitaṃ sattvamadbhutadarśanam ॥5-1-187॥
Translation
Seeing that creature with a deformed face and strange appearance, Maruti thought, "This is indeed the marvelous creature mentioned by the King of Monkeys (Sugriva)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस विकृत मुख वाले अद्भुत प्राणी को देखकर मारुति (हनुमान) ने विचार किया—"यह वही अद्भुत प्राणी है जिसके विषय में कपिराज (सुग्रीव) ने बताया था।"
English Commentary
Recognition is the first step towards victory. Hanuman immediately correlates the current threat with the intelligence briefing provided by King Sugriva back in Kishkindha. The description vikṛtānanam (deformed face) confirms the identity. This shows the importance of prior knowledge and listening carefully to instructions. Because he remembers Sugriva's warning, he is not confused by the phenomenon; he identifies it as a known variable, which allows him to formulate a strategy.

हनुमान जी की स्मृति शक्ति और सुग्रीव के निर्देशों के प्रति उनकी निष्ठा यहाँ स्पष्ट होती है। किष्किन्धा काण्ड में सुग्रीव ने सीता की खोज के लिए वानरों को भेजते समय मार्ग की बाधाओं, विशेषकर 'छायाग्राहिणी' राक्षसी के बारे में सचेत किया था। संकट के क्षण में गुरु या स्वामी के वचनों का स्मरण ही रक्षण करता है। हनुमान जी ने तुरंत पहचान लिया कि यह कोई अनजान शत्रु नहीं, अपितु वही अपेक्षित बाधा है।
