छायाग्राहि महावीर्यं तदिदं नात्र संशयः ।
स तां बुद्ध्वार्थतत्त्वेन सिंहिकां मतिमान्कपिः ।
व्यवर्धत महाकायः प्रवृषीव वलाहकः ॥ ॥५-१-१८८॥
Chāyāgrāhi mahāvīryaṃ tadidaṃ nātra saṃśayaḥ |
Sa tāṃ buddhvārthatattvena Siṃhikāṃ matimānkapiḥ |
Vyavardhata mahākāyaḥ pravṛṣīva valāhakaḥ ॥5-1-188॥
Translation
"This is undoubtedly that very shadow-catching creature of great power." Understanding the truth of the matter regarding Simhika, the wise monkey expanded his body like a cloud in the rainy season.
हिंदी अनुवाद
"इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं कि यह वही महावीर्यवती छायाग्राहिणी है।" उस सिंहिका को यथार्थ रूप से पहचानकर, बुद्धिमान वानर ने अपने शरीर को वर्षाकाल के बादल के समान बढ़ा लिया।
English Commentary
Hanuman confirms the identity: this is the Chāyāgrāhi. The phrase buddhvārthatattvena implies grasping the reality of the situation instantly. His reaction is tactical expansion. Just as a monsoon cloud (valāhaka) swells rapidly, Hanuman expands his form. This demonstrates his mastery over the Laghimā and Mahimā siddhis (yogic powers of shrinking and expanding). He provokes the demoness to open her mouth wider, setting a trap for her, turning her own greed/hunger into her weakness.

शत्रु को पहचानते ही हनुमान जी ने अपनी रणनीति बदल दी। 'बुद्ध्वार्थतत्त्वेन' का अर्थ है कि उन्होंने स्थिति के मूल तत्त्व को समझ लिया। सिंहिका को हराने के लिए उन्होंने अपने आकार में वृद्धि की। वर्षाकालीन मेघ (वलाहक) की उपमा उनके विस्तार की गति और विशालता को दर्शाती है। सुरसा के समय भी उन्होंने आकार बढ़ाया था, किन्तु यहाँ उद्देश्य भिन्न है। यहाँ वे शत्रु को भ्रमित कर उसके मुख को विदीर्ण करने की योजना बना रहे हैं।
