Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
जगामाकाशमाविश्य पन्नगाशनवत्कपिः ।
प्राप्तभूयिष्ठपारस्तु सर्वतः प्रतिलोकयन् ॥ ॥५-१-२००॥
jagāmākāśamāviśya pannagāśanavatkapiḥ । prāptabhūyiṣṭhapārastu sarvataḥ pratilokayan ॥ ॥5-1-200॥
Translation
Entering the sky like the serpent-eater (Garuda), the Vanara proceeded. Having reached the proximity of the other shore, he began looking all around.
हिंदी अनुवाद
सर्पों को खाने वाले गरुड़ (पन्नगाशन) की भाँति आकाश में प्रवेश करके हनुमान जी आगे बढ़े। समुद्र का अधिकांश भाग पार कर लेने के बाद वे सब ओर (नीचे की दृश्यावली) देखने लगे।
English Commentary
The simile shifts from the Moon (beauty/gentleness) back to Garuda (Pannagāśana - the eater of snakes). This reflects his triumphant state after destroying the serpentine/marine monster Simhika. The narrative moves towards the conclusion of the flight. Prāptabhūyiṣṭhapāraḥ indicates that the vast majority of the ocean is behind him. His action of sarvataḥ pratilokayan (looking everywhere) signifies situational awareness; he is scanning the coastline for a safe and strategic landing spot in Lanka.
हिंदी टीका
यहाँ पुनः हनुमान जी के लिए एक नई उपमा का प्रयोग किया गया है—'पन्नगाशनवत्' (गरुड़ के समान)। जैसे गरुड़ सर्पों का काल है, वैसे ही हनुमान जी ने अभी सिंहिका का संहार किया है, इसलिए यह उपमा प्रसंगानुकूल है। 'प्राप्तभूयिष्ठपारस्तु' इंगित करता है कि शतयोजन की यात्रा लगभग पूर्ण हो चुकी है। अब हनुमान जी की भूमिका एक योद्धा से बदलकर एक गुप्तचर (spy) की होने वाली है, इसलिए वे 'सर्वतः प्रतिलोकयन्' (सब ओर देख रहे हैं)—अर्थात् लैंडिंग से पहले क्षेत्र का सर्वेक्षण (reconnaissance) कर रहे हैं।
