निरुन्धन्तमिवाकाशं चकार मतिमान् मतिम् ।
कायवृद्धिं प्रवेगं च मम दृष्ट्वैव राक्षसाः ॥ ॥५-१-२०४॥
nirundhantamivākāśaṃ cakāra matimān matim । kāyavṛddhiṃ pravegaṃ ca mama dṛṣṭvaiva rākṣasāḥ ॥ ॥5-1-204॥
Translation
Blocking the sky as it were, the wise one reflected: "Just by seeing the massive growth of my body and my rapid speed, the Rakshasas..."

आकाश को रोकते हुए से (अपने विशाल शरीर को देखकर) बुद्धिमान हनुमान ने विचार किया—"मेरे शरीर के इस विस्तार और तीव्र वेग को देखकर राक्षस (मुझे पहचान लेंगे)..."
English Commentary
This verse initiates Hanuman's strategic shift. His body is so large it appears to "obstruct the sky" (nirundhantam iva ākāśaṃ). Being Matimān (wise/intelligent), he anticipates the enemy's reaction. He realizes that his Kāyavṛddhi (expanded body) and Pravega (high velocity), which were assets during the flight, are liabilities for infiltration. This internal monologue highlights that Hanuman is not just a being of strength, but a master of tradecraft, understanding that he must now conceal his presence to succeed.
हिंदी टीका
हनुमान जी 'मतिमान्' (बुद्धिमान) हैं। वे जानते हैं कि युद्ध के नियम और जासूसी के नियम भिन्न होते हैं। आकाश को ढकने वाला ('निरुन्धन्तमिवाकाशं') विशाल शरीर समुद्र लांघने के लिए आवश्यक था, किन्तु गुप्त प्रवेश के लिए यह बाधक है। यह श्लोक उनकी रणनीतिक सोच (Strategic thinking) को दर्शाता है। वे समझ गए कि यदि वे इसी रूप में उतरे, तो लंका की सुरक्षा प्रणाली (Rakshasas) उन्हें तत्काल पहचान लेगी और मिशन खतरे में पड़ जाएगा। अतः वे अब रूप बदलने का निर्णय लेते हैं।
