Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कृतक्ण्ठगुणाः क्षीबा र्क्तमाल्यानुलेपनाः ।
र्क्तक्षाः पुष्कराक्षाश्च गगनं प्रतिपेदिरे ॥५-१-२५॥
kṛtakaṇṭhaguṇāḥ kṣībā raktamālyānulepanāḥ |
raktākṣāḥ puṣkarākṣāśca gaganaṃ pratipedire ॥5-1-25॥
Translation
Adorned with necklaces, intoxicated, wearing red garlands and ointments, with red eyes and lotus-like eyes, they (the Vidyadharas) ascended into the sky.
हिंदी अनुवाद
(गले में) हार पहने हुए, मदमत्त (नशे में), लाल माला और लेप (चंदन) लगाए हुए, लाल नेत्रों वाले और कमल जैसे नेत्रों वाले वे विद्याधर आकाश में चले गए।
English Commentary
This verse captures the abrupt disruption of the Vidyadharas' revelry. They are described in a state of intoxication ('Kshibah') and aesthetic indulgence, wearing red garlands and ointments ('Raktamalyanulepanah'). Red is traditionally the color of passion and vitality. Their flight into the sky ('Gaganam pratipedire') is immediate, carrying their festive appearance into a panic-stricken evacuation. The contrast between their delicate, lotus-like eyes ('Pushkarakshah') and the redness caused by intoxication ('Raktakshah') paints a vivid portrait of celestial hedonism interrupted by the raw force of Hanuman's endeavor.

इस श्लोक में विद्याधरों की वेशभूषा और स्थिति का वर्णन है। 'कृतकण्ठगुणाः' का अर्थ है जिन्होंने गले में हार या मालाएं पहनी हैं। 'क्षीबा' शब्द इंगित करता है कि वे मद्यपान कर रहे थे और नशे में थे, इसीलिए उनकी आंखें लाल ('रक्ताक्षाः') थीं। कुछ की आंखें स्वभावतः कमल जैसी सुंदर ('पुष्कराक्षाः') थीं। लाल माला और लाल लेप ('रक्तमाल्यानुलेपनाः') काम और राजसी भोग का प्रतीक है। हनुमान जी के कंपन से घबराकर वे उसी अवस्था में—नशे और श्रृंगार के बीच—आकाश में उड़ गए। यह दृश्य विलासिता और संकट के अचानक मिलन को दर्शाता है।
