Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दर्शयन्तो महाविद्यां विद्याधरमहर्षयः ।
सहितास्तस्थुराकाशे वीक्षाञ्चक्रुश्च पर्वतम् ॥५-१-२७॥
darśayanto mahāvidyāṃ vidyādharamaharṣayaḥ |
sahitāstasthurākāśe vīkṣāñcakruśca parvatam ॥5-1-27॥
Translation
Displaying their great knowledge (supernatural power of flight), the Vidyadharas and great sages stood together in the sky and gazed at the mountain.

अपनी 'महाविद्या' (उड़ने की सिद्धि/शक्ति) का प्रदर्शन करते हुए, वे विद्याधर और महर्षि एक साथ आकाश में स्थित हो गए और पर्वत को देखने लगे।
English Commentary
The term 'Mahavidyam' here refers to the supernatural skill or science possessed by the Vidyadharas (literally 'holders of knowledge') that allows them to navigate the ether. They are not merely floating; they are actively employing their powers to hover and observe. Joined by sages ('Maharshayah'), they form a collective audience in the sky. Their gaze is fixed downward on the mountain, indicating that the commotion has ceased to be a threat and has become a subject of intense scrutiny and study.

यहाँ 'महाविद्या' का संदर्भ उस विशिष्ट सिद्धि या ज्ञान से है जिसके द्वारा विद्याधर गुरुत्वाकर्षण के नियमों को लांघकर आकाश में स्थिर रह सकते हैं। वे केवल भाग नहीं रहे हैं, बल्कि अब एक व्यवस्थित समूह में ('सहिताः') खड़े होकर नीचे देख रहे हैं। इसमें 'विद्याधर' (जो विद्या धारण करते हैं) और 'महर्षि' (तपस्वी) दोनों शामिल हैं। उनका ध्यान अब उस कारण (पर्वत) पर केंद्रित है जिसने उन्हें अपना स्थान छोड़ने पर विवश किया। यह श्लोक भय से निरीक्षण (observation) की ओर संक्रमण (transition) को दर्शाता है।
