आनुपूर्व्येण वृत्तं च लाङ्गूलं लोमभिश्चितम् ।
उत्पतिष्यन् विचिक्षेप पक्षिराज इवोरगम् ॥५-१-३३॥
ānupūrvyeṇa vṛttaṃ ca lāṅgūlaṃ lomabhiścitam |
utpatiṣyan vicikṣepa pakṣirāja ivoragam ॥5-1-33॥
Translation
Preparing to fly up, he lashed his tail, which was curved and covered with hair, just as the King of Birds (Garuda) would lash a serpent.
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऊपर उठने (उड़ने) की इच्छा करते हुए उन्होंने (हनुमान जी ने) अपनी गोलाकार और रोंएदार पूंछ को वैसे ही झटका (पीछे फेंका), जैसे पक्षीराज गरुड़ सांप को पकड़कर ले जाते समय झटकते हैं।
English Commentary
The tail plays a crucial aerodynamic and symbolic role here. Described as rounded and hairy ('Lomabhishchitam'), its movement is dynamic. The verb 'Vichikshepa' implies a vigorous lashing or flicking motion. Valmiki compares this action to Garuda ('Pakshiraja' - King of Birds) snatching a snake ('Uragam'). This simile serves two purposes: it connects Hanuman to Garuda (the ultimate flyer) and visualizes the serpentine movement of the long tail as it whips through the air, generating momentum for the takeoff.

हनुमान जी की पूंछ उनके संतुलन और दिशा-निर्देशन (rudder) का मुख्य अंग है। 'आनुपूर्व्येण वृत्तं' का अर्थ है जो क्रमशः गोल होती गई है (tapering/curved)। 'लोमभिश्चितम्' (बालों से ढकी हुई)। जब वे कूदने के लिए तैयार हुए, तो उन्होंने पूंछ को झटका ('विचिक्षेप')। यहाँ उपमा 'पक्षिराज इवोरगम्' (गरुड़ जैसे सांप को) बहुत शक्तिशाली है। यह गति, शक्ति और वायु पर अधिकार को दर्शाती है। गरुड़ सांपों के शत्रु हैं और उन्हें हरने में समर्थ हैं; वैसे ही हनुमान जी आकाश को जीतने जा रहे हैं।
