Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
कामरूपिभिराविष्टमभीक्ष्णं सपरिच्छिदैः ।
यक्षकिन्नरगन्धर्वैर्देवक्ल्पैश्च पन्नगैः ॥५-१-६॥
kāmarūpibhirāviṣṭamabhīkṣṇaṃ saparicchidaiḥ |
yakṣakinnaragandharvairdevaklpaiśca pannagaiḥ ॥5-1-6॥
Translation
That mountain was constantly inhabited by Yakshas, Kinnaras, Gandharvas, and god-like Pannagas (serpents), who could change their forms at will, along with their retinues.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह पर्वत इच्छानुसार रूप धारण करने वाले, अपने परिवार और सेवकों सहित यक्ष, किन्नर, गन्धर्व और देवताओं के समान प्रभावशाली नागों (पन्नगों) से सर्वदा भरा रहता था।
English Commentary
This verse establishes the sanctity and the supernatural atmosphere of Mount Mahendra. It is not a desolate rock but a bustling habitat for celestial beings like Yakshas, Kinnaras, and Gandharvas. The term 'Kamarupibhih' (those who can change form at will) is significant because Hanuman himself is about to utilize this very ability to expand his body. The presence of these 'god-like' beings serves as witnesses to Hanuman's feat. In the epic context, great events are often witnessed by the entire cosmos, including the semi-divine beings residing in the terrestrial and atmospheric realms.

महेंद्र पर्वत कोई साधारण स्थान नहीं है; यह दिव्य योनियों का निवास स्थान है। यक्ष, किन्नर, गन्धर्व और नाग—ये सभी अर्ध-दैवीय शक्तियाँ हैं जो 'कामरूपी' (इच्छाधारी) हैं। 'सपरिच्छिदैः' का अर्थ है कि वे वहाँ अपने परिवार और संपत्ति के साथ स्थायी रूप से निवास करते हैं। हनुमान जी का ऐसे स्थान पर होना और वहाँ से अपनी यात्रा आरंभ करना यह सिद्ध करता है कि वे स्वयं इन दिव्य शक्तियों के समकक्ष या उनसे श्रेष्ठ हैं। इन निवासियों की उपस्थिति उस वातावरण की पवित्रता और दिव्यता को और बढ़ा देती है।
