सन्ध्यया समभिस्पृष्टं यथा तत्सूर्यमण्डलम् ।
लाङ्गूलं च समाविद्धं प्लवमानस्य शोभते ॥ ॥५-१-६१॥
sandhyayā samabhihspṛṣṭaṃ yathā tatsūryamaṇḍalam |
lāṅgūlaṃ ca samāviddhaṃ plavamānasya śobhate ॥5-1-61॥
Translation
The curled tail of the flying Vanara shone beautifully, resembling the disc of the sun touched by the red glow of twilight.
हिंदी अनुवाद
आकाश में उड़ते हुए उस वानर (हनुमान) की मुड़ी हुई पूंछ ऐसी शोभा पा रही थी, मानो संध्याकाल की लालिमा से स्पर्श किया हुआ सूर्य का मंडल हो।
English Commentary
Valmiki focuses on the aesthetic of Hanuman’s tail as he flies. The tail is curled up (samāviddhaṃ), forming a circle or arch. The reddish-gold hue of the tail is compared to the solar disc (sūryamaṇḍalam) when it is touched by the crimson hues of twilight (sandhyā). This simile suggests both the shape (circular/arced) and the color (reddish-gold) of the tail. It elevates a simple physical feature of the monkey to a celestial phenomenon, reinforcing the idea that Hanuman’s flight is a cosmic event.

महर्षि वाल्मीकि यहाँ हनुमान जी की पूंछ के सौंदर्य का वर्णन कर रहे हैं। उड़ते समय उनकी पूंछ ऊपर की ओर मुड़कर एक गोलाकार आकृति (कुंडल) बना रही थी। चूंकि हनुमान जी का वर्ण ताम्र (लाल/सुनहरा) है और उनकी पूंछ का रंग भी वैसा ही है, तो वह गोलाकार पूंछ आकाश में ऐसी लग रही थी जैसे डूबता हुआ या उगता हुआ लाल सूर्य (संध्यालीन सूर्य) हो। यह 'उपमा अलंकार' हनुमान जी के तेज और उनकी पूंछ की विशालता को दर्शाता है। पूंछ केवल एक अंग नहीं, बल्कि उनके प्रभामंडल का हिस्सा प्रतीत हो रही है।
