महता दारितेनेव गिरिर्गैरिकधातुना ।
तस्य वानरसिंहस्य प्लवमानस्य सागरम् ॥ ॥५-१-६४॥
mahatā dāriteneva girirgairikadhātunā |
tasya vānarasiṃhasya plavamānasya sāgaram ॥5-1-64॥
Translation
As that lion among monkeys leapt across the ocean, he appeared like a huge mountain torn apart, revealing veins of red ochre (minerals).
हिंदी अनुवाद
सागर को लांघते हुए उस वानरराज (हनुमान) का शरीर (लाल रंग के अंगों के कारण) ऐसा लग रहा था मानो कोई महान पर्वत विदीर्ण हो गया हो और उससे लाल रंग का गेरू (गैरिक धातु) बह रहा हो।
English Commentary
Valmiki completes the visual description started in the previous verse. The reddish hue of Hanuman’s hind parts is likened to a mountain that has been rent asunder (dāritena), exposing streaks of red ochre or minerals (gairikadhātunā). This implies that Hanuman is not just a mountain in size, but a mountain in composition—rock-hard and elemental. The metaphor reinforces his connection to the earth even as he dominates the sky.

यह श्लोक पिछले श्लोक (63) से जुड़ा हुआ है। हनुमान जी के शरीर के लाल भागों (जैसे मुख और कटि प्रदेश) की तुलना यहाँ पर्वत की 'गैरिक धातु' (गेरू) से की गई है। जब पहाड़ टूटता है या दरकता है, तो उसके भीतर से लाल मिट्टी या धातु की धाराएं दिखती हैं। विशालकाय हनुमान जी आकाश में ऐसे ही लग रहे हैं। 'वानरसिंह' (वानरों में सिंह) शब्द का प्रयोग उनकी श्रेष्ठता और शक्ति को बताने के लिए किया गया है। यह उपमा उनके शरीर की कठोरता (पर्वत जैसी) और रंग (गेरू जैसा) दोनों को सिद्ध करती है।
