दृष्ट्यते सानुबन्धा च तथा स कपिकुञ्जरः ।
पतत्पतङ्गसंकाशो व्यायतः शुशुभे कपिः ॥ ॥५-१-६६॥
dṛśyate sānubandhā ca tathā sa kapikuñjaraḥ |
patatpathaṅgasaṃkāśo vyāyataḥ śuśubhe kapiḥ ॥5-1-66॥
Translation
Seen with his long tail (trailing behind), that elephant among monkeys shone like the sun (or a bird) flying through the sky. With his massive form, the monkey looked splendid.

अपनी लंबी पूंछ (या गति के कारण पीछे बनी रेखा) के साथ वे वानरश्रेष्ठ (कपिकुञ्जर) ऐसे दिखाई दे रहे थे, मानो आकाश में उड़ता हुआ सूर्य (या पक्षी) हो। अपने विशाल शरीर के साथ वे अत्यंत सुशोभित हो रहे थे।
English Commentary
The term sānubandhā refers to something that has a trail or connection behind it—in this case, his long tail stretching out in flight. He is compared to patanga (which can mean the sun or a bird) in motion. If interpreted as the sun, it fits the earlier verses; if as a bird, it emphasizes his flight. The epithet kapikuñjaraḥ literally means "an elephant among monkeys," an idiom for being the best or most powerful of his kind, highlighting his massive size and strength amidst the agility of flight.

'सानुबन्धा' का अर्थ है जिसके पीछे कोई लंबी चीज (जैसे पूंछ या रस्सा) हो। हनुमान जी अपनी लंबी पूंछ के साथ उड़ रहे हैं। 'पतत्पतङ्गसंकाशो' में 'पतंग' शब्द के दो अर्थ हैं—सूर्य और पक्षी। यहाँ दोनों अर्थ संगत हैं। सूर्य की तरह वे तेजस्वी हैं और पक्षी की तरह वे आकाशचारी हैं। 'कपिकुञ्जरः' (वानरों में हाथी) एक विरोधाभासी लेकिन सुंदर विशेषण है, जो उनकी जाति (वानर) और उनके बल/विशालता (हाथी) दोनों को एक साथ व्यक्त करता है।
