Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तिमिनक्रझषाः कूर्मा दृश्यन्ते विवृतास्तदा ।
वस्त्राप्कर्षणेनेव शरीराणि शरीरिणाम् ॥ ॥५-१-७४॥
timinakrajhaṣāḥ kūrmā dṛśyante vivṛtāstadā । vastrāpakarṣaṇeneva śarīrāṇi śarīriṇām ॥ ॥5-1-74॥
Translation
At that time, whales, crocodiles, fish, and turtles were seen exposed, just as the bodies of living beings are revealed when their garments are pulled away.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस समय (जल के हट जाने से) तिमि, मगरमच्छ, मछलियाँ और कछुए वैसे ही अनावृत (प्रकट) दिखाई देने लगे, जैसे वस्त्र खींच लेने पर प्राणियों के शरीर दिखाई देते हैं।
English Commentary
Valmiki uses a bold and striking simile here to describe the displacement of the ocean water. The water is metaphorically the "clothing" of the marine life. Hanuman’s speed creates such a vacuum or displacement that the deep-sea creatures—whales (timi), crocodiles, and turtles—are suddenly exposed to the sky. Comparing this exposure to the stripping of clothes highlights the violence and suddenness of the action. It signifies that Hanuman’s power penetrates the depths, stripping the ocean of its secrets and laying bare the life within.

यहाँ एक अत्यंत प्रभावशाली उपमा दी गई है। हनुमान जी के वेग से समुद्र का पानी इस प्रकार फट गया या ऊपर उठ गया कि समुद्र की तलहटी में रहने वाले विशाल जीव भी स्पष्ट दिखाई देने लगे। कवि कहते हैं कि यह दृश्य ऐसा था मानो किसी के शरीर से वस्त्र हटा दिया गया हो। समुद्र ही उन जलचरों का वस्त्र है जो उन्हें ढके रहता है। हनुमान जी की गति ने उस आवरण को हटा दिया। यह श्लोक दर्शाता है कि हनुमान जी का वेग केवल सतह को ही नहीं, बल्कि समुद्र की गहराइयों को भी प्रभावित कर रहा था।
