Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्लवमानं समीक्ष्यथ भुजङ्गाः सागरालयाः ।
व्योम्नि तं कपिशार्दूलं सुपर्ण इति मेनिरे ॥ ॥५-१-७५॥
plavamānaṃ samīkṣyatha bhujaṅgāḥ sāgarālayāḥ । vyomni taṃ kapiśārdūlaṃ suparṇa iti menire ॥ ॥5-1-75॥
Translation
Seeing that tiger among monkeys flying in the sky, the serpents dwelling in the ocean mistook him for Garuda (the King of Birds).
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब आकाश में उड़ते हुए उस वानर-श्रेष्ठ (हनुमान) को देखकर समुद्र में रहने वाले सर्पों ने उन्हें गरुड़ (सुपर्ण) ही समझा।
English Commentary
This verse captures the perspective of the terrified creatures below. The sea serpents (bhujaṅgāḥ), seeing a massive form hurtling through the sky, instinctually identify it as their natural predator, Garuda (Suparna). Garuda is the mount of Vishnu and is known for his immense speed and power. By comparing Hanuman to Garuda through the eyes of the snakes, the poet elevates Hanuman’s stature. It suggests that his flight possessed the same majesty, speed, and terrifying aura as that of the King of Birds.

समुद्र के भीतर रहने वाले सर्पों के लिए आकाश में उड़ने वाला सबसे भयभीत करने वाला प्राणी गरुड़ है, जो सर्पों का शत्रु माने जाते हैं। हनुमान जी की विशाल काया और तीव्र गति को देखकर सर्पों को भ्रम हुआ कि स्वयं गरुड़ आ रहे हैं। 'कपिशार्दूलं' (वानरों में व्याघ्र समान) विशेषण हनुमान जी के शौर्य को दर्शाता है। यह श्लोक भय और भ्रम (भ्रांतिमान अलंकार) के माध्यम से हनुमान जी की तुलना गरुड़ से करता है, जो गति और शक्ति के प्रतीक हैं। यह सिद्ध करता है कि हनुमान जी की उड़ान सामान्य नहीं थी, बल्कि एक दैवीय घटना जैसे थी।
