करिष्यामि भविष्यामि सर्ववाच्यो विवक्षताम् ।
अहमिक्ष्वाकुनाथेन सगरेण विवर्धतः ॥ ॥५-१-८९॥
kariṣyāmi bhaviṣyāmi sarvavācyo vivakṣatām । ahamikṣvākunāthena sagareṇa vivardhitaḥ ॥ ॥5-1-89॥
Translation
"...I shall become a subject of criticism for all who speak. I was expanded by Sagara, the lord of the Ikshvakus."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"...(तो) मैं बोलने वालों के बीच निंदा का पात्र बन जाऊँगा। इक्ष्वाकु वंश के स्वामी सगर ने ही मेरा संवर्धन (विकास) किया है।"
English Commentary
The Ocean fears reputational damage (sarvavācyo—to be talked about/blamed by all). He acknowledges his origin story explicitly here: he was "expanded" (vivardhitaḥ) by King Sagara. In the ethical framework of the Ramayana, gratitude (kṛtajñatā) is a binding force. The Ocean feels that his very existence is owed to Rama's ancestors, and therefore, helping Rama's messenger is not optional—it is a debt of honor.

सागर को 'अकृतघ्नता' (ehsan-faramoshi) का भय है। वे सोचते हैं कि यदि उन्होंने हनुमान की मदद नहीं की, तो दुनिया कहेगी कि सागर ने अपने उपकारियों को भुला दिया। 'सर्ववाच्यो' का अर्थ है 'सबकी बातों का विषय' यानी निंदा का पात्र। 'विवर्धितः' का संदर्भ सागर के विस्तार से है। यह श्लोक भारतीय संस्कृति के उस मूल्य को रेखांकित करता है जहाँ उपकार को याद रखना और समय आने पर उसे चुकाना सर्वोच्च धर्म माना जाता है।
